DrupalForge for Agencies: We Are Just Getting Started

Drupal agencies do far more than build websites.

They create demonstrations, prepare proposals, onboard developers, manage client environments, coordinate reviews, deploy applications, provide hosting, and support sites long after launch.

Yet many agencies still handle these activities through a collection of disconnected tools.

Local development environments live on individual laptops. Client demonstrations require temporary hosting. Developers spend time configuring machines. Staging environments are created separately. Deployments rely on custom scripts. Hosting and ongoing operations may be handed to another provider.

DrupalForge for Agencies is being developed to bring more of this journey together.

It is still in its early stages.

Some of the foundation is already available today. The broader agency platform, marketplace, and partner experience are still taking shape.

That is intentional.

We are starting with real agency workflows, learning how teams use the platform, and building the next generation of DrupalForge around what agencies actually need.

What Agencies Can Use Today

DrupalForge already gives agencies a faster way to create and work with Drupal environments in the cloud.

Agencies can use DrupalForge to:

  • Launch Drupal sites and templates in seconds
  • Create disposable environments for demonstrations and testing
  • Give developers cloud-based development environments
  • Use VS Code, Composer, Drush, Git, a terminal, and database tools in the browser
  • Share working sites with clients, developers, and stakeholders
  • Pause and resume environments as needed
  • Develop without requiring every team member to configure Drupal locally
  • Move completed Drupal projects toward production environments

This makes DrupalForge useful today for demonstrations, prototyping, development, training, testing, and client collaboration.

An agency can launch a template before a discovery call, customize it during the sales process, and share a working Drupal site instead of relying only on screenshots or presentation slides.

A new developer can open a cloud environment without spending the first day installing Docker, configuring PHP, importing databases, and troubleshooting differences between operating systems.

A project manager or client can review progress through a live URL without reproducing the development environment on another computer.

These capabilities are already part of the DrupalForge foundation.

What DrupalForge for Agencies Is Becoming

The larger vision goes beyond cloud development environments.

We believe Drupal agencies should be able to manage more of the client journey from one platform -- from the first demonstration through development, deployment, hosting, and ongoing services.

DrupalForge for Agencies is being shaped around that idea.

Over time, we expect the agency experience to include stronger support for areas such as:

  • Managing multiple client projects
  • Organizing developers, clients, and environments
  • Reusing successful project configurations
  • Turning completed projects into repeatable templates
  • Demonstrating agency solutions through a marketplace
  • Connecting projects with deployment and hosting options
  • Supporting ongoing maintenance and managed services
  • Creating new recurring-revenue opportunities for agencies

These are directions for the platform, not a declaration that every feature is complete today.

We do not want to release an agency dashboard filled with features that look impressive but do not solve the daily problems agencies face.

We want to build the platform alongside agencies.

From One-Off Projects to Reusable Solutions

Most agencies have already created valuable intellectual property.

It may be a higher-education website architecture, a nonprofit starter site, a government distribution, a healthcare portal, a component library, an accessibility-focused configuration, or a collection of modules that solves a recurring client problem.

Too often, that work remains buried inside an individual client repository.

When the next opportunity arrives, the agency rebuilds much of the same foundation again.

DrupalForge can help agencies turn that work into reusable starting points.

Instead of beginning every engagement from an empty installation, an agency could begin with a proven template that reflects its preferred modules, architecture, components, workflows, and best practices.

The agency still provides the strategy, design, development, integration, migration, and support that make the project successful.

DrupalForge simply helps the agency begin from a stronger position.

This can reduce the time between an initial conversation and a working demonstration. It can also help agencies deliver projects more consistently while preserving their own methods and expertise.

A Better Way to Demonstrate Drupal

Drupal is powerful, but demonstrating that power has often required significant preparation.

A salesperson may need a developer to install a site, configure modules, create sample content, and host it somewhere before a prospect can see anything meaningful.

By the time the demonstration is ready, the sales opportunity may already have moved forward.

DrupalForge changes that starting point.

An agency can launch a working Drupal experience in seconds and use it as the beginning of a more informed client conversation.

The demonstration does not need to be the final project. Its purpose is to make the opportunity real.

Clients can see how content is managed. They can explore the administration interface. They can review layouts, workflows, integrations, and features in a functioning Drupal site.

For agencies, this means the sales process can become more visual, interactive, and credible.

Cloud Development Without Abandoning Developer Choice

DrupalForge is not based on the idea that every developer must stop using local development tools.

Local environments remain valuable, especially when working offline or when a project requires a highly customized local stack.

The goal is to offer agencies another option.

Cloud development can be particularly useful when:

  • A new developer needs to begin quickly
  • A contractor is joining for a limited engagement
  • A team is distributed across different locations
  • A client needs to review work in progress
  • A workshop or training session needs identical environments
  • A developer is working from multiple devices
  • A project needs a temporary environment without additional hosting setup

Agencies should be able to select the workflow that best fits the project.

DrupalForge adds a cloud-based path that reduces dependence on individual laptops and makes environments easier to access, share, and reproduce.

Helping Agencies Keep the Client Relationship

DrupalForge for Agencies is not intended to replace agencies.

The agency owns the strategy, expertise, delivery process, and client relationship.

Our role is to provide infrastructure and marketplace capabilities that help agencies serve clients more efficiently.

That includes helping agencies demonstrate solutions, deliver projects, and potentially expand into hosting, maintenance, cloud operations, and other recurring services.

Many agencies build excellent Drupal sites but hand the production relationship to a separate hosting provider after launch.

That can limit the agency’s long-term role with the client.

We believe agencies should have a stronger path to remain involved after deployment, whether they manage those services directly or work with infrastructure and operations partners.

The objective is to strengthen the agency, not stand between the agency and its customers.

Built in the Open, Shaped by the Community

DrupalForge is operated as a nonprofit initiative.

Its mission is broader than selling another development tool.

We want to make Drupal easier to experience, learn, demonstrate, develop, and deploy.

Agencies are central to that mission because agencies introduce organizations to Drupal, train users, employ developers, support community projects, and maintain many of the sites that demonstrate Drupal’s value.

DrupalForge for Agencies is still at the beginning of its journey.

The platform available today provides the foundation: instant Drupal environments, cloud development tools, shareable demonstrations, templates, collaboration, and deployment workflows.

The next stage will be shaped by the agencies that use it.

We are looking for early agency participants who want to test the current capabilities, share their workflows, identify gaps, and help determine what should come next.

Start With What Is Available Today

You do not need to wait for the complete agency platform to begin using DrupalForge.

Start with a client demonstration.

Launch one of the available Drupal templates.

Invite a developer into a cloud environment.

Use DrupalForge for a workshop, prototype, proof of concept, or internal project.

Share a working site with a prospect or client.

Then tell us what would make DrupalForge more valuable to your agency.

DrupalForge for Agencies is not finished.

It is being forged now.

And there is much more to come.
